A fatal accident involving a fuel tanker and a Hyundai Elantra claimed the lives of two people in Konongo, Asante Akim Central Municipality, Ashanti Region, on November 6, 2024. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) reported that the tanker’s brakes failed, causing it to collide with multiple vehicles before ultimately crashing into the Hyundai Elantra. Tragically, both occupants of the Elantra died instantly.
Seven others sustained injuries and were taken to Konongo Government Hospital. According to Peter Addai, GNFS Public Relations Officer for the Ashanti Region, the accident involved four vehicles, including a Toyota and another unidentified vehicle, near Mark Zenith Company Limited on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
Addai confirmed a total of nine people were involved, with seven rescued by bystanders and sent to the hospital. The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the police, who have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
