Staff at Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong, Eastern Region, are calling on the Ghana Highway Authority to install speed humps in front of the hospital by November 15, 2024. This urgent appeal comes after multiple road accidents between May and October resulted in over six fatalities due to high-speed vehicles passing the hospital.
The latest tragedy involved a registered nurse fatally struck by a speeding car after completing her shift. Speaking on Citi FM, the hospital administrator, Maxwell Larbi, voiced frustration over the lack of response to their numerous appeals since 2020.
“We started reaching out to the Highway Authority in 2020 about frequent incidents involving staff and clients being knocked down. We simply need a speed ramp to slow down traffic in front of the hospital,” Larbi emphasized.
Following the recent incident, authorities assured the hospital that they would coordinate with the Highway and Road Safety Authorities to resolve the issue. Larbi added, “They’ve promised action, but if by November 15 nothing changes, we will consider other options.”
