Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah, head of the Economic Sub-Committee for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Manifesto, has defended the party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, from criticisms linking him to Ghana’s recent economic downturn.
In a November 11 interview with Channel One TV, Dr. Assibey-Yeboah clarified that economic management was largely the responsibility of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and other key officials, not Dr. Bawumia. Despite Dr. Bawumia’s prominent role as Vice President, Dr. Assibey-Yeboah emphasized that Bawumia’s primary focus has been on digital transformation and financial inclusion, with the Finance Ministry overseeing the national economy.
Dr. Assibey-Yeboah encouraged voters to recognize Dr. Bawumia’s achievements in modernizing Ghana’s digital landscape, which has improved accessibility and efficiency across sectors. He expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, stating that his vision and proven track record position him well to lead Ghana’s economic recovery and transformation.
“He is saying, ‘Give me the opportunity.’ The Economic Management Team is appointed by the President and does not entail day-to-day economic control,” Dr. Assibey-Yeboah noted, urging Ghanaians to trust Dr. Bawumia’s capability to drive growth and stability.
