The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to revisit its suspension of the 2024 presidential ballot paper printing, following the passing of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) flagbearer Madam Akua Donkor on October 28, 2024. The GFP has been given 10 days to select a new candidate, as per Article 50 (4) of the 1992 Constitution.
Deputy EC Chairman Dr. Bossman Asare, speaking after a tour of Accra-based ballot printing facilities, confirmed, “While parliamentary ballots are currently in production, we expect to make a decision on the presidential ballots by next week.”
During the tour, which included Buck Press in Ofankor, Innolink in North Industrial Area, and Acts Commercials Limited in Darkuman, journalists observed the printing process for regions including Ashanti, Savannah, Greater Accra, and Upper West. The tour’s objective was to boost transparency and public confidence in the electoral process, led by Director of Electoral Services, Mr. Benjamin Bano-Bioh.
Addressing misinformation, Dr. Asare clarified, “Reports of excess ballot production are false. All printing is conducted with full involvement and observation by party representatives, who track statistics for each constituency.”
Mr. Bano-Bioh emphasized that the EC is among the few election bodies in the region printing ballots locally, underscoring its commitment to a fair and open electoral process. “This transparency extends to agents from all participating parties who oversee the process, recording quantities and serial ranges, and adding their seals to each batch.”
Buck Press Executive Director Dr. Francis Nyanin affirmed that the team is working diligently to meet production deadlines, underscoring the dedication to an efficient and transparent election process.
