Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially retracted and apologized for statements made against Prof. Ransford Gyampo, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana.

In an October 28, 2024, statement, Mustapha alleged that Prof. Gyampo had used a University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) strike to politically influence students in favor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He also claimed that Prof. Gyampo sought a political appointment from the NDC and tarnished his own reputation through alleged misconduct with students.

Following discussions with Prof. Gyampo’s legal team, Mustapha recognized the defamatory nature of these statements. He subsequently issued an apology, stating, “I hereby retract and render an unqualified apology to Prof. Gyampo, as I have no evidence to support the claims I made.”

Mustapha further committed to ensuring that this retraction receives the same media attention as his original allegations, saying, “I am arranging for this retraction and apology to be published prominently by all outlets that carried my initial statement,” acknowledging the potential harm caused by the unfounded allegations.
