Fuel prices in Ghana are nearing GH₵15 per litre, with diesel now selling at GH₵14.99 and petrol at GH₵14.72 per litre. The recent hikes were anticipated by industry analysts, driven by the continuous depreciation of the Cedi and rising global petroleum prices.
Shell has led the increase, raising its prices for the second time this month by over 50 pesewas. A litre of petrol, previously priced at GH₵13.79, now costs GH₵14.72, while diesel has climbed from GH₵14.35 to GH₵14.99.
Other oil marketing companies (OMCs) are expected to follow suit, exacerbating financial pressure on consumers. Commuters fear that these price hikes will soon lead to increased transportation fares.
Experts caution that without Cedi stabilization or a drop in global oil prices, fuel prices will likely continue rising.
