FIFA will meet with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in Accra from October 31 to November 1, 2024, to initiate plans for introducing Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Ghana’s domestic leagues. This “VAR Kick-Off Meeting” is the initial phase in FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program, a crucial step for any country planning to adopt VAR technology.

During the two-day event, FIFA and GFA representatives will review key elements of the VAR project to ensure a smooth rollout in Ghana. FIFA experts, including Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, will provide insights into the implementation process. GFA’s delegation, led by General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo, will include officials like Head of Referees and VAR Team Leader Alex Kotey and representatives from legal, IT, competitions, PR, and refereeing departments.

The VAR introduction aims to enhance referee accuracy and align Ghanaian football with global standards.
