On Saturday, a tragic accident on the Sunyani-Berekum highway claimed the lives of eight people including mourners. Out of ten individuals involved, five males and three females died due to the collision’s severe impact.
The crash occurred between a Toyota Corolla taxi (registration AS 4819-17) traveling from Sunyani to Berekum and a private vehicle belonging to the Great Wall School (registration GN 5753-12) carrying four mourners from Dormaa-Ahenkro to Sunyani.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. at Amanfoso, when the driver of the private vehicle reportedly lost control of the steering, swerving into the taxi’s lane and causing the collision.
The injured were quickly transported to the Berekum Holy Family Hospital and Sunyani Teaching Hospital for urgent medical care. However, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) later confirmed to the Daily Graphic that all eight occupants had succumbed to their injuries. The identities of both drivers remain under investigation.
