Dr. Bawumia: Free Kidney Dialysis for NHIS Patients from December 1

Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has announced that, effective December 1, 2024, all patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) will receive free kidney dialysis treatments. This expanded coverage follows a successful pilot initiative that provided free dialysis to patients over 60 and those under 18.

Speaking in the Old Tafo constituency on Sunday, November 10, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the significant impact of this program.

“Kidney disease affects many, and the cost of dialysis can be prohibitive. Six months ago, we launched a pilot to include dialysis in NHIS benefits, offering free treatment for seniors over 60 and children under 18,” he explained.

“As we conclude this pilot phase, we’re excited to extend free dialysis coverage to all eligible NHIS patients starting December 1,” Dr. Bawumia added, emphasizing the government’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible for all.
