The 2024 Ballon d’Or marked the 68th edition of this prestigious award ceremony presented by France Football, celebrating the world’s best football players for the 2023–24 season. For only the third time in history, the award was based on seasonal performance (August 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024) instead of the calendar year. Nominees were announced on September 4, 2024, and the event took place on October 28, 2024.
This year introduced two new honors: Men’s Coach of the Year and Women’s Coach of the Year, spotlighting coaches’ impact on team success. Co-hosted by UEFA for the first time, France Football maintained its original voting system and the Ballon d’Or branding.
In a historic first, both the Men’s and Women’s Ballon d’Or awards were won by players from the same country—Spain—with Rodri and Aitana Bonmatí earning the honors. The Kopa Trophy also went to another Spanish talent, Lamine Yamal.
