Ghana DJ Awards is a failure – DJ Flexi1 of Dadi FM


Felix Kwesi Montford, known for his showbiz as DJ Flexi1; a renowned radio personality who has been on radio for years in Accra with Accra, Eastern region based radio station Dadi 101.1 FM, sees Ghana DJ Awards organizers as failures for not rewarding Disc Jockeys (DJs) who play old Ghanaian or contemporary music (ie “Adadamu”).

DJ Flexy1 said he doesn’t work as a presenter or DJ for awards, but it’s good to recognize Ghanaian DJs who had dedicated themselves to serve their listeners old Ghanaian music “Adadamu”

In an exclusive interview with GH Bwouy on Gh radio online a campus based radio, DJ Flexy1 said the organisers of the award scheme have failed for refusing to award or recognise DJs who play old Ghanaian or contemporary music (ie “Adadamu”) which is the only genre that really tells the story of others with good production.

“It’s about time the Ghana DJ’s awards organizers reward DJs who play old Ghanaian music not only mixing and scratching business, if not they have failed as an award scheme, whose aim is to celebrate and appreciate the talents of Disc Jockeys (DJs)” he said.

According to Dj Flexi1, he is a 40years on, has been in the industry for few years now and started main stream radio with Radio XYZ 93.1 as a regular host of one entertainment rap show dubbed “STREETBEAT UNLIMITED” which did not last for quite long due to a few problems with management of the station in the year 2015.

All things been well, he is now with Dadi FM, in fact making waves with a very educative musical talk show dubbed “METEE BI AKYE” which literally means “I heard some long ago” he plays very deep long lost hard to find or hear Golden Ghanaian old highlife on Saturdays from 3pm to 6pm on Dadi FM, and he has captured the attention of the lovers of old Ghanaian highlife tunes which we normally call Adadamu special.

As young as he is and the kind of songs he plays, people wonder where he gets such old records to be aired.
The young vibrant man, he has a working turn table and plays the vinyl and records them directly, simple conversion, he added.

with legendary ace broadcaster and actor Mr Charles Amankwah Ampofo

Again, Dj Flexi1 revealed his late father had a Radiogram changer so as young as he was by 13years of age he used to play records for his late Dad every Sunday afternoon after church and also does lots of research with legendary ace broadcaster and actor Mr Charles Amankwah Ampofo of GBC . Mr Ampofo has also been of great help to him by supplying him some old materials both on tapes and vinyl he added.

Dj Flexi1 also doubles up as producer of another wonderful program on the same network Dadi FM, a program named “ASI PEN” which is designed to talk about old past events back with serious Adadamu music. An educative and wonderful program been aired every Sunday evening from 7pm to 10pm.

Dj Flexi1 is also a lecturer of one of the best media schools in Ghana, GH MEDIA SCHOOL.
