National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) Sammi Awuku, has defended Bright Ernest Akomeah, also known as ‘Double’ as a national security operative.

To Mr Awuku, those criticizing the recruitment of Ernest Akomeah are ignorant and lack knowledge of security matters in general.

According to him different persons with different backgrounds and professions have been recruited as operatives to serve different purposes.

He noted that even commercial sex workers and people in lesser jobs could be recruited into national security for special reasons and particularly pick intelligence.

“In fact, if they don’t know, then I will tell them today that Double was recruited for a special reason. The national security you see there has cleaners, shoemakers and even prostitutes working to provide information,” he said.

“If critics expect to see a doctor or even a lawyer as a national security person, then they would be disappointed. They can find out from Bryan Acheampong,” he added on Okay FM monitored by Adomonline.com.

Double’ who was part of a team of national security operatives at La Bawaleshie during the Ayawaso West Wuogon bye-election on Wednesday revealed that he was recruited into the country’s National Security Council in 2017 after a three-week training programme at Asutuare.

When he appeared before the Justice Emile Short Commission on Tuesday, Double who spoke through an interpreter said he was a mobile phone dealer at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra before his recruitment.

But, Sammi Awuku who claims to know Double for some years now believes ‘Double’ is an informant and best for the role he plays in the national security team and not an ordinary person as purported by the public.

He however expressed shock at those criticizing Double’s recruitment process.

“I was amazed at the reaction from my brothers in the NDC and other Ghanaians criticizing the recruitment of Double into the national security. Let me tell them that national security is an intelligence unit which needs ordinary people to give out information,” he added.
